Specialization and Responsibilities

Ole Osterthun (M. Sc.) studied chemistry at the RWTH Aachen University and obtained his Master's degree in 2016. He spent a 3-month research stay at the University of California, Berkeley during his master programm, supported by ACalNet. For his doctoral studies at the Institute of Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry, he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klankermayer. He developed homogeneous transition-metal catalysts for the sustainable and efficient synthesis of oxymethylene ether. Therefore, detailed mechanistic studies were performed, both experimentally and computationally. Since 2019, he is working also for the RWTH Innovation GmbH as part of the Exzellenz Start-Up Center.NRW.

In April 2021, Ole Osterthun joined the team of the Center of Molecular Transformations as an associated coworker. His expertise lies in the topics of development of homogeneous transition-metal catalysts and sustainable reaction in the context of renewable fuels, biomass conversion and polymer recycling. He supports the activities in the projects Kopernikus Power-2-X , NAMOSYN and GreenSolRes .
